But first, let’s take a selfie…

Taking a good photo is an art form. From the subject to the backdrop to that special moment it captures, a good photo can have you all in your feelings. When friends come to SF I really want them to not only experience the magic of SF but to capture and remember the beauty of it as well. I knew I had to reach out to my dear friend and talented photographer, Ashley Grems, to share her favorite spots to photograph. Her photos are absolutely stunning! Whether it’s with your naked eye or behind an iPhone, you’re not going to want to miss these special spots.

I love San Francisco, especially being a photographer! There's beauty around every corner if you're paying attention! Over the years, I've accumulated a list of places to shoot around the city - I think I'm up to like 80+ as of today. So when Lex asked me to write about my favorite photo opp spots around SF, I jumped at the chance to share! Narrowing it down to 5 was reeeaaallly hard, but I tried to think of some out-of-the-way places and ones you can shoot with your phone and still get beautiful photos. With all that in mind, here you have are my top 5…

Golden Gate Bridge from Battery Spencer

No San Francisco photo list can exclude Golden Gate Bridge. She is picturesque from any angle, but I love the view from Battery Spencer because you get the whole of the city behind her. In one word: Iconic. My favorite time to shoot here? Sunrise! (Don't hate me until you try it.)

Rincon Park/Cupid's Span

San Francisco has a lot of art sculptures around town. My personal favorite is Cupid's Span, but not because of the actual piece of art itself, but because of the view (don't tell the artists.) The Bay Bridge is right there, ships coming and going, and, obviously, people watching. Grab a blanket and a bottle of wine, find yourself a spot to sit, and enjoy.

Grant Avenue in Chinatown

Every time we walk up California or Sacramento Streets, Grant Avenue always catches my eye. The red lanterns hanging over the street are contrasted wonderfully against a blue sky. I have it on my to-do list to visit there at night, with everything all lit up!

Pier 7

There's a lot to love about Pier 7! You get a great view of the Bay Bridge, sunsets behind the city, but what sets this place apart are the benches. I know what you're thinking..."benches, Ashley?" They're pretty iconic, actually. And the whole pier gets even better during sunset as the lampposts light up!

Twin Peaks

Day or night, seeing the city from Twin Peaks is a must-do for residents and tourists alike. The view never disappoints. The wind can get gnarly up there, so be sure to pack your layers!

Thanks Ash!

Didn’t I tell you her pictures were amazing?! She knows how to capture SF’s best angles. If you happen to go to any of these spots be sure to tag Ash and I. We love seeing you guys out and around the city.
